Curriculum Instruction in Teaching English Language Arts
EDUC 3103

This course focused on developing the skills required to teach English Language Arts curriculum in an elementary classroom. Year, unit and lesson planning were explicitly taught and practiced throughout the duration of the course. Additionally, many teaching methods were demonstrated and explained.

Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Science
EDUC 3106

This course included learning about teaching science in the elementary classroom. Many classroom science resources, strategies, and assessment tools were provided for the pre-service teachers.

Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Mathematics
EDUC 3108

This course provided the confidence and knowledge needed to teach math in the elementary school classroom. Many hands-on opportunities were given for preservice teachers to try out different strategies. Additionally, students developed their own resource bank of tools for the math classroom.

Indigenous Perspective in Education

EDUC 4351

This course provided an opportunity to challenge biases and perspectives of preservice teachers. Course material included an in depth look at Aboriginal traditions and education. An extensive resource was created of First Nations, Metis and Inuit resources to be used in the classroom.

Language Development and Literacy in Schools

This course required a 20 hour practicum in a literacy focused classroom. Content in this course included focusing on the importance of language and literacy in the world and especially in the classroom. Course content additionally covered topics such as the connection between language and thought, cultural influences on language, teaching methods and teaching intervention strategies.

Children's Literature 2

This course examined children's literature including realistic and historical fiction, traditional literature, and fantasy. This was an excellent course to help with building a classroom library.

Professional Dimensions of Teaching I

​EDTS 232

This course laid the foundation for my teaching career. The content covered in this course included influences on education such as political, philosophical, and historical knowledge. This knowledge has allowed me to begin seeing exactly what is involved with being a teacher. I was also allotted thirty hours to spend in a classroom observing as well as participating in classroom activities.

Professional Dimensions of Teaching II

​EDTS 232

The course content included an in-depth development of my own personal teaching philosophy and the development of an e-portfolio. Lesson planning was also a large portion of the course content. Twenty-two hours were dedicated to a practicum where I had the opportunity to teach a lesson. Many other topics continued to build on my teaching foundation including differentiation, inclusion, major philosophical systems, and fostering effective relationships.

Introductory Art Experience for Teaching I
ARED 310

This course focuses on the learning value of visual art for the development of young children. This course provided an opportunity to experience 18 hours of practicum experience in a grade one classroom. A strong emphasis is placed on individual and group learning through inquiry and reflection.

Tools for Teaching and Learning in the Digital Classroom
EDTS 325

This course included learning about the techniques and skills for the successful use of technology in the classroom. In today's digital world a teacher must be able to be confident when incorporating technology into curriculum. This course was effective in helping me become confident when using technology.

Educational Psychology

​EDTS 321

Topics included social, physical, cognitive and emotional development of children. It is imperative to understand the student’s varying abilities when considering planning and teaching a class.

Oral Communications

​COMM 250

Communication is a very important skill for teachers. I saw tremendous growth personally in this course as I faced many challenging assignments including an introduction speech, persuasive speeches, and impromptu speeches. This course taught me about the importance of being aware of speech habits and the importance of knowing your audience.

Introduction to Nutrition
NUTR 200

The content covered in the course was inclusive of a complete study of a human body’s ability to process food and the impact of fitness on health.

Problems of Philosophy
PHIL 201

This introductory philosophy course skimmed the surface of some major philosophy topics including friendship, human nature, and ethics.

Aesthetics Experiences and Ideas

​GNED 221

The courses included learning about values and ideas that are shaped by people’s life experiences. An in-depth study examining the importance of beauty in the world.

Communities and Societies
GNED 234

This course took an in-depth examination of the economic, political, and cultural systems of both traditional, current and possible future societies. Most intriguing was the examination of the treatment of First Nations people including the tragedies and complexities surrounding the First Nation culture.

Scientific and Mathematical Literacy for the Modern World
GNED 210

This introductory course widened the reasoning skills required to understand science, math and technology in daily life.
