Valuable Video Tools

Video tools are beneficial for differentiated learning, class engagement and discussion as well as a beneficial for formative assessment. Students learn in many different ways. Videos provide one method to help visual learners stay engaged in a topic. Using a variety of teaching forms in a lesson will keep students engaged and more willing to participate in class discussion. It is important as a teacher to offer as many learning opportunities as possible that will continually engage students. This is essential when you have a diverse class with varied learning levels and needs. As a teacher, ongoing formative assessment is important to the growth of the student. Video tools can provide an opportunity for students to acquire a new understanding through feedback of a subject area provided through formative assessment.

Some specific video tools that I may use in my classroom are: iMovie, Edpuzzle, and Youtube. I was pleasantly surprised at how user friendly all of these programs are to use. Even I was able to use them with ease. Both of these resources could be used easily in either an individual project or a group project. I really enjoyed working with a group over the past two weeks in my EDTS325 class to create a small music video with a variety of camera angles and a movie trailer. It allowed an opportunity to be creative at the same time as learning about camera angles, cutting clips, and a variety of video tools.

Below are the group movie, movie trailer, and EDPuzzle that I created with my group over the past two weeks. What a fun assignment and something I will use in the classroom in the future.
