The Inescapable Blog

Updated: Sep 26, 2019

A word that comes to mind when I think about technology in general is despair. My disgruntled reaction may be an indication of my age but I will leave that for another post. Now that technology is inescapable I can at least use it to reveal my meditations on the mysterious world of education. My elementary reactions to writing a blog about teaching were both feelings of elation and trepidation. How on earth can I feel two extreme emotions at the same time, you wonder? Well I will tell you. In years gone by I have become a discipline individual. I have made valiant efforts to be as efficient as possible at most of the tasks set before me. Therefore, I was elated to be challenged with the task of writing a blog...on paper, right? No Katie blogs are online. Fear stuck me and I was ensued with panic. Remember I work hard to be efficient at "most" tasks. The anxiety I feel when I use technology has been my excuse for not making efforts to become better at it. I have strayed away from technology for as long as possible.

Teachers should not be afraid of blogging because the discipline of blogging helps teachers to improve and widen their abilities according to George Couros' blog '4 Reasons People Don't Blog and Ideas to Change their Minds.' Teachers need to be good students before they can become really good at teaching. Couros states that blogging is a way of achieving success as a learning tool through open reflection with other teachers via the blogging process. According to Matt Miller in his blog 'Why I Blog', an essential step of learning is recording your progress and blogging helps to track and digitize your thoughts and process. When a teacher blogs they can look back in surprise at all the changes and adjustments that they have made.
